Acupuncture for Digestion/IBS

From what enters our body to what exits our body, there is a long path of function for the digestive system. The health of our digestive system not only nourishes our body, but also nourishes our brain. If you are feeling blocked up, spending more time in the bathroom than you want to, not comfortable leaving the house, or afraid of clearing a room, this all affects how your mind functions.  There is more to supporting your digestion than antacids, stool softeners, antibiotics, steroids, and detoxing. Acupuncture and herbs restore the transformation and transportation functions of the digestive system so you feel confident not only in your body, but in your mind.

Upper GI

Stimulate your body's "rest and digest" response, also known as your parasympathetic nervous system (PNS). Acupuncture increases the blood flow to the digestive tract, increasing this relaxed state, and also stimulating digestive enzymes and intestinal activity.

CONDITIONS:  bloating, GERD (acid reflux), heartburn, indigestion, sensation of food sitting in your stomach, nausea, low or no appetite, excessive appetite, stomach pain, hiatal hernia, sensation of something stuck in your throat, excessive burping

Lower GI

Increase parasympathetic nervous system (PNS) activation while decreasing stress within the body which is commonly associated with digestive issues.

CONDITIONS: diarrhea, constipation, slow bowels, intestinal cramps, painful bowel movements, irritable bowel syndrome/disease, Chrohn’s disease, ulcerative colitis, hemorrhoids, anal fissures, flatulence (farting)

FAQ

  • You will not experience pain with acupuncture. You may experience warmth, heaviness, tingling, or other sensations in and around the needle site.

  • The vast majority of patients don't need long-term treatment but choose to continue with regular acupuncture for maintaining their overall health.

  • Our patients are typically able to get great results with once-weekly visits, and the visits are typically less than 60 minutes. That’s less than an hour a week. We’ll discuss this in more detail at your free consultation.

  • People often feel a shift after the very first treatment. Acupuncture is a very powerful way to stimulate endorphin release, which is the most powerful relaxing substance the body makes.

Everyone is different, but many people feel a shift of some type after their first treatment.  We will discuss result expectations based on your personal goals at your free consultation.

Success Story: Digestion/IBS

Leigh Gilkey has been my acupuncturist for a little over 2 years. She has been a great help, the best really because I have been drug free for 2 years with a condition called Ulcerated colitis!! Of course this is not an overnite treatment or voodoo she did! It's been lots of work on her side (Chinese herbs) and patience on my part. I would highly recommend her to anybody who wants an alternative for a doctor visit. She is a great people person who really cares and listens well.
